Bowood House has been the home of the Lansdowne family since it was purchased by the 1st Earl of Shelbourne in 1754. It is surrounded by acres of ‘Capability’ Brown’s landscape and stunning gardens. Since then the house has seen huge changes. The second Earl began major improvements using the renowned architect Robert Adam, who worked on the interiors, including creating the beautiful Orangery to the ‘Large House’ being demolished after the second World War when it fell into disrepair.
