Bowood House has been the home of the Lansdowne family since it was purchased by the 1st Earl of Shelbourne in 1754. It is surrounded by acres of ‘Capability’ Brown’s landscape and stunning gardens. Since then the house has seen huge changes. The second Earl began major improvements using the renowned architect Robert Adam, who worked on the interiors, including creating the beautiful Orangery to the ‘Large House’ being demolished after the second World War when it fell into disrepair.

The collection of art and many historical treasures, such as Napoleon’s death mask, Queen Victoria’s wedding chair and the laboratory in which Dr Joseph Priestly identified oxygen gas provides interest for all tastes.

We leave North Harbour at 9am to arrive at Bowood House in time for coffee (included), after which we will be taken on a guided tour of Lord and lady Lansdowne’s Private walled garden. The Tour takes approximately 1 hour and if the weather does not hold the guides can provide a presentation instead.

Following this we will enjoy a two course buffet lunch in the Stables restaurant (included). We will then have free time to explore the House and gardens at our leisure.
There will be time for a final cup of tea in The Treehouse Café and a look around The Terrace Gift Shop before we leave for North Harbour at approx. 5pm.
