North Harbour at 9.30am and return at 17.15hrs
and the Kennet Horse Drawn Barge
Enjoy a leisurely
few hours in the historic Wiltshire market town of Marlborough. Probably
best known for its High Street, one of the widest in England and lined
on both sides with characterful old buildings housing an array of quality
shops. Take the opportunity to have a snack or lunch before we continue
to Kintbury, Berkshire, where we join the Kennet Boat Company horse-drawn
barge for a leisurely afternoon cruise on the Avon and Kennet Canal
The Queen reopened the Kennet and Avon Canal in 1990, after it had been
extensively cleared and refurbished by dedicated waterway enthusiasts
and local volunteers. It runs through what is often spectacular scenery
for 87 miles between the Thames at Reading and the Avon at Bristol.
The canal section is 57 miles long and was constructed between 1794
and 1810 to link the Avon and Kennet rivers. During our cruise on a
classic barge, we will be served a light afternoon tea.
